Nos chères têtes blondes adoreront sûrement. S'y trouvent savamment dosés gros gags, coups d'éclat et bons sentiments. (...) Et les parents? La question devient plus délicate. Peut-être trouveront-ils la trame amusante. (...) Mais riront-ils d'un chameau vomissant (...) et autres gaudrioles? Il y a de quoi douter.

The best that can be hoped for with a movie like DECK THE HALLS is that it might be a funny CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS, a painless, amusing seasonal diversion. Tough luck: It's possibly even worse. (...) John Whitesell doesn't so much direct as manage traffic, and DECK THE HALLS never builds the snappy momentum needed for even B-grade farce. Like CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS, this is just one more complacent, sold-out Christmas product, a thin layer of Hallmark sentimentality surrounding a cynical core.

As good-hearted as it may be, DECK THE HALLS is too lightweight to leave more than a fleeting impact. The idea of two neighbours competing with each other is funny enough, but no matter how the one-joke premise is embellished, nothing hides the fact that it is more suited to a television comedy skit.
